Mandatory State Notice Regarding Criminal History

Please be advised under the Private Security Act (Occ. Code, Chapter 1702) and Administrative Rule, §35.4 (37 Tex. Admin. Code §35.4), a criminal conviction may disqualify you from a commission or a license under the Act.

For a list of disqualifying offenses and the related periods of ineligibility, review §35.4, available on the department’s website at dps.texas.gov/rsd/psb (click on the Laws tab and then click on Administrative Code) and §§1702.113 and 1702.163 of the Act, as applicable. You also have a right to request from the department a criminal history evaluation letter under Occ. Code, §53.102.

Security Level 2 Online Certification

Texas Level II Security License (often called a Non-Commissioned Security Officer license) allows you to work in several entry-level private security roles. It does not allow you to carry a firearm while on duty.

Security Level 3 Online Certification

Level III Security License in Texas makes you a Commissioned Security Officer, meaning you can work armed security positions and carry a firearm while on duty if employed by a licensed security company.

A Level III license requires additional training, firearms qualification, and state approval beyond the Level II course.
